The whole idea to get into the Expired Domains game was because I owned too many domain names to properly use them for anything content intensive. I had some great ideas and bought some domains, but with my current time restraints, those domains have sat in limbo-la-la-land. I was curious if there would be a way to monitize the sites. So I did some digging around and found several useful and informative sites about Expired Domains and Parking Domain Names. So I’m doing a little project to see if I can monitize these sites and also, pick up expired domain names with traffic. I’m not sure where this project will take me, but I’m sure I’ll learn a few things along the way.

Project: Domain Insanity
Started: November 2005
Description: To see if I can monitize the sites I own and pick up expired domains with traffic - to then use them to make a passive income from pre-existing traffic. Can a project like this take off with very low overhead - I’m not spending $100’s of dollars for one domain name, just seeing if it can be done with very little start-up capital.

Resources Used:
- Sedo.com : to park my domains and monitize them.
- StartName.com : Find link popularity on expired domains.
- Domain Announce : Your snap service for deleted domain names.
- ClickMojo : Expiring Hotlist of domain names.
- Namestead : A free resource to find expiring domains.
- Dotcenter : Another resource to find expiring/expired/onhold domain names.
- DomainBroadcasting.com : Check out expiring/expired domains.

People selling domain names:
- Domain names for Internet Business : This person has picked up some domain names and will sell them if you find one that fits your next business venture.

What I’ve done so far:
December 2005 - Picked up 2 new domains fresh from the expiry pool. Both have to do with Poker. We’ll see how they do. So far I don’t think they’ve had much exposure before they were dropped and I picked them up for a steal of a deal… but you never know with the popularity of poker these days. I’ll wait and see how it goes.

Update: I found that the two sites that I picked up do have the backlinks - but so far I’ve not had any traffic. Which kind of sucks - but what can you do… so I’ll wait and see what January 2006 brings.

November 2005 - I signed up with Sedo.com and was just “testing the waters” of parking domains to make some extra passive income. I put 3 domain names in the pool and found one little gem that stood out from the others. My end-hair-loss.com which I picked up some time back when I thought of making a product website for hair loss products, and then didn’t really have the time to do it… thought many people would be looking for it - and I was right! Not a staggering amount of traffic but a few hundred visitors a month. Not bad for not knowing what I was doing! This peaked my interest in expired domains - what if I could find a BETTER one that that? So this is where my Domain Insanity project began.
