The $15k Challenge

Everyday BS, Wish I'd Thought of That Comments

You’ve probably heard about this one… the $15kChallenge site where Dan documents how he would try for $15k in 30 days.  In the end he was so close… ah the thong awaits.  But as I read more about the challenge and understood how the challenge would commence… it got me wondering.

At first I was pretty excited by the idea he had.  I mean, who doesn’t want to earn $15 in 30 days. *Everyone raise your hand*  So I started reading what he had documented.  He offered up some good links if you’d like to go that route and try your hand at marketing to the MySpace crowd.

1. I think this is a good blog documentary about how to get the ball rolling on a limited budget.

2. I found out that you can market to the MySpace crowd (because I can’t stand that place… but I’m not under 18 either… LOL).

3. A nice - short - list of products to use, some I’ve never heard of so it will be interesting to investigate further.

4. Learning from someone who’s been there and done that and doesn’t mind sharing tips and other things with the rest of us.

On the flip side… and maybe I’ve missed it somewhere is this:

1. He says that he’s not using scripts, etc from other projects.  Now I’m not sure about Dan’s background - he probably knows a thing or two about script writing… but he was able to put together a site that had three levels of marketing

- Level One: Free Books
- Level Two: Refer 3 friends and move up a level
- Level Three: Become a Platinum member… pay and there you go - opportunity to make more money with the affiliate program.

Very elaborate.  Well executed.  But in his sharing… nothing was said about the script.  He was going to do something about that on his main site.  So… really he shares - but not everything is coughed up on his blog in regards to the script he used - was it one he bought, made, had someone make for him (and if he did - where did he get it made?)

I was perplexed.  Since I’m no programmer… and the idea that he has is a good one - how would I go about implementing it.

- I don’t have a script like that.

- I don’t know how he got the affiliate program implemented either.

Really nice… but steps were missed out - at least that is how I see it.  So I guess to do something along the same line I would need to find a free script or have someone write it for me.  Is that an autoresponder deal?  Do I need 2Checkout or can I use PayPal?

See… I get caught up in it and rather than seeing Dan make the money he did in 30 days and going whoo hoo for him (which is totally awesome).  This project has left more questions for me than answers.

Have you heard of Moola.com?

Everyday BS, Product Reviews, Wish I'd Thought of That Comments

Ok, here’s the thing - Moola.com is totally addictive. Totally. I signed up for their beta testing - where you can play games online for money. Not a new idea, but I like money so I thought why not ;)

You sign up for free and you get a free penny to start the whole process. If you win - you double your money. You have the opportunity to double your money all the way up to $10,000,000. Of course that sounds great - and EASY right?! Of course nothing is ever that easy, but it’s a fun way to pass some time.

I’ve managed to get up to .64 cents (oh yeah… champaign for everyone!!!… lol).

So after all of that - if you’d like to give it a try I’ve got 4 offers to sign up. Just comment here if you’d like one with a legit email address and I’ll send them along. (you can also just sign up for the beta test, but you’ll have to wait a few days or so before you can get in).

Check it out: Moola.com (not an affiliate link)

… on a sidenote: It’s an ingenious way for us to watch the ads… and they make money ;)

Jobs at ProBlogger.net

Everyday BS, Wish I'd Thought of That Comments

If anyone is looking for a little extra to do, Problogger.net now has a Blog Job Board.

The ProBlogger job board is where bloggers looking for jobs and companies looking for bloggers to hire meet.

If you’re looking to hire a blogger the ProBlogger Job Board is a place to find them.

I’m not sure if anything there could be applied to my knowledge base - but it’s something that I’ll check out every once in a while to see if there’s anything there that peaks my fancy (or that I know something about that I could blog about).

Check it out: Problogger.net Job Board

Back Up Your Blog!

Everyday BS, Wish I'd Thought of That Comments

I’m terrible for not doing this… and I’ve got to get it together and start backing up my blogs. I came across BackupMyBlog from Lifehacker today. It’s a free service that will backup your blog using your FTP and the backup is then sent to your email address and kept on their servers…just in case something goes pear-shaped.

Of course there is the option when using Wordpress to use their backup function as well - but I’m thinking if something went wrong with my computer hard-drives, or my site, etc… and the backup failed. I’d be so freakin’ upset. Also I don’t think you can go wrong with a few backups - and they do it daily.

The program is free while in Beta mode.

So I just signed up and it took less than 5 minutes to do everything. Once you give FTP access info - it will automatically detect the files it needs (how easy is that!) and que it for backup. Now just to wait and see if it works. Sign up was a breeze… so I’m hoping the good vibes carry on to tomorrow… and I have my backup.

Try it out - BackupMyBlog - FREE!

** Update: While they’re in Beta Mode this is what I got as a reply when I confirmed my email address…

NOTE: Backup of your account has been disabled because your blog database is too big. During the beta we are limiting accounts to 10MB.

So if you do have a site under 10MB - try it out. If it’s more than that… you’ll have to wait it out until their out of beta testing. Bummer :(
