Deciding to make things easier

oiopublisher logoI’ve been thinking a lot lately on how I can take steps to make my online life a little bit easier… a little bit more automated and I got to thinking about ad sales and how that can end up taking quite a bit of time to set up and then the way I set it up is manually and if someone buys from me it’s all manually done and that can lead to me missing things and lead to less revenue. So I’m on a quest to find something that will work with what I’m running - which is mostly WordPress.

So I’d heard about OIOPublisher before and to be quiet honest I thought spending $37 on a product when I could do it myself seemed silly. Now I’m thinking I will be investing in the program to give it a whirl here. I took a walk through the demo and I’m glad that I did. I had no idea how versatile the program was - seriously I thought it only did 125×125 placements on a site. But this program will do more than that, it will put ads in your RSS feeds, in posts, under posts, etc. Seriously a very versatile program.

I’ve also seen other “big” names out there using the program too - which is a good guide to see what the more successful bloggers are doing to monetize their sites and how they do it and keep their sanity in the meantime :)

So in the next week or two I’ll be implementing OIOPublisher on this site and we’ll see how it goes. I’d love to get some advertising going - where I’m supporting other affiliate bloggers and their sites or projects. I’m really looking forward to opening the door and getting people’s names out there - even though currently I’m not a “big” name in the industry… maybe I can help get people’s names out there - and their ideas. So fingers crossed!

… and we’ll get the good times rolling and a little more time saved to do things that will get me more productive!

PicApp - What an Awesome Idea!

Hillary Clinton Campaigns For Upcoming Primaries
Image details: Hillary Clinton Campaigns For Upcoming Primaries served by picapp.com

PicApp is a site where you can surf through tons of photos and use them for FREE on your website. Now I can think of a few sites that would benefit from something like this - for example … gossip blogs, political blogs, news blogs… and that’s just to name a few.

If you’re looking to get some great photos on your site, without the worry that you’re in copyright infringement hell - this would be a great place to look. When I went to PicApp, I tried to sign up - but it looks to be that sign ups are good for the United States only. But that doesn’t mean we can’t use them - or for that matter if you don’t want to sign up, all you need to provide is an email address. Nice. Yes we might be put on a newsletter or two - so perhaps using an email that would be good for that might be in order.

I chose Hillary for this example - but there’s great photos of cats, George Clooney, Obama, etc. I think this is one of those ideas that is great for those of us with small budgets and can’t afford the bigger fees that go along with getting rights to some photos. Hell, some ideas go down the drain because we don’t have access to these sorts of photos.

I guess the one thing I’m not too fond of is the sponsored links box below the image. But I guess they need to make money too… so if you can put up with it - use the service. I think it’s handy to use if you need too.

Overall - a great idea for the low budget blogger who needs images with out the copyright law hassle. We’ll see if the look they use pays off for them. I think it’s a great idea - but not too sure about how it looks on a site.

Update… just minutes later: Ok… as easy as cut and paste is I’m having a hell of a time aligning my image. It could just be me (as is often the case), but this is turning into a bit of a pain in the butt. Hopefully that’s not the case with everyone else.

Blue Mushrooms changing direction

Everyday BS, Wish I'd Thought of That 2 Comments »

The lovely Sapphire at BlueMushrooms has decided to take her blog in a different direction and she’s looking for suggestions on what we might want to see there.   I was sad to see her wanting to stop the journaling style she had there, because, well I love her writing style and I have been following along her blog since I started here - she’s been tackling the affiliate marketing and trying to make some money online and was one of the first blogs I found.

So I’ll admit the change in course has saddened me… but she’s a sweetheart and saw my heart breaking *wink* and has put up another area on her site where she’ll be journaling along (and admits maybe not so much) so I can still get my fix and so can you.

I was honestly surprised and touched that Sapphire is doing that… mostly because of me blurting out how I’ll miss it.  I  REALLY REALLY appreciate it!!

But anyhoo… check out her site, let her know what sort of things you might like to see there and stay in touch with her journaling as well.  She’s got a great amount of information - and she’s not one to spread the bull.  She’s a great resource if you’ve got questions about making money online, affiliate marketing - and we all can learn a little from her journey.

Code you can use on your site

Wish I'd Thought of That 1 Comment »

You might have noticed that the site has undergone a bit of a change with the template and so far so good - no major glitches and things are going pretty well. You might also have noticed in the top right corner a banner… a corner banner with the “Breast Cancer Research Month” written on it. I figured I’d do my part for the month of October - in raising awareness about the illness and also the code kind of fell into my lap. Stanley over at websiteribbon.com contacted me telling me about his cool site, where you can create these corner ribbons - for free.

There’s no catch - you just put in the information you need and voila - there’s a javascript waiting for you with your text/link/colour of ribbon. Now I had a bit of a dilemma as to how I would put it on this site - do I put it in the header? Or the Index? Well, through trial and error - I’ve managed to figure it out (it really wasn’t that hard - ya!).

We’ve all seen corner images and advertising - but I’ve never really figured out how to do it. Now I don’t have to :) I can just go to websiteribbon.com and make one for myself. Might be handy if you’re doing a promotion… or just raising awareness… or linking to a cool page on your site. It’s just a bit different from your everyday promotions and thought I’d give Stanley a shout out - and say thanks for a cool bit of code that’s free to use and easy to install!
