SoulCast(beta)… Blogging for Money

Site Reviews 2 Comments »

I came across an ad for SoulCast. It presents itself as a blog system where you can make money from your posts.

See my blog: The Empress on SoulCast.

I’m not quite sure what to make of this system yet. It definitely isn’t what I expected…. at all. I was thinking more along the lines that you would blog about anything and then have to fit an ad into your blog - or maybe even blog about a product and make money from it.

Well, from what I can tell … that isn’t what you do. Instead it’s based on Google Adsense. You get a sub-account with Soul Cast and in there you blog about your day, hobbies, projects, whatever you want - and they’ve got Adsense in the template (that is attached to your adsense account) and that’s how you make money.

Isn’t that special?? Not so much… or maybe I’m being to cynical and hard on them. I don’t think having a sub-domain is any good to someone who wants to make a name for themselves or wants to transfer to a unique domain later - I can’t see you being able to transfer the posts. Another thing is the formatting. There are no handy buttons to say bold something, or link to something. It’s set up more like a forum post system with brackets and slashes and all that stuff.

You cannot post photos or any images - for them its all about words, in the “purest” sense. When you sign up you allowed to post 5 times a day. You can post about most anything as long as it’s not slanderous - and they do say to read their terms of service. Makes sense. If you’re not a member you’re only allowed to see the first three posts - sign up and see everything…. how interesting is that! What a way to increase your base of customers.

But I’m not sure I’m sold on the pay to blog deal with SoulCast - it just appears to be blogger with a different name and less options.

… I have to remember not to be so hard on them since it’s still in “beta”.

They offer Niche Sites… and all I got was a dead link

155 Adsense WebsitesI created a new category called “site reviews”. I thought I’d take a peek through what I see on ads for affiliate programs/niche site targeting/affiliate stuff. This is my first - and I’ve got to say that the ad that I saw intrigued me and I just had to click. 155 Adsense Websites was advertising through Google - and I’m a curious cat and decided to check out what they had to offer.

Now I’m going to get you all hot and bothered in describing their site. I thought the premise was a good one - sign up and get 155 websites all ready to go for Google - in good niches, etc. The site says it has services, faqs, affiliate program (that piqued my interest), articles and a contact us area. I thought this doesn’t seem so bad. I went and I clicked. Then I clicked again, and again. And nothing. These links were dead. They didn’t go anywhere.

I sat back and looked at the site - not one of their links worked except for the links at the bottom for other websites (to their “network”). I’m wondering - why would this company/business/individual put up a website - then advertise through Google - and not having things set up properly. I mean if the links actually worked and there were pages there… you never know - I might have clicked.

…. but no.

So I’m still wondering why would someone advertise a site that for all intents and purposes is nothing more than an index page with an idea (a good one perhaps if the site had worked) and links at the bottom for other sites. I just don’t get it. They’re paying for links that I think have no chance in hell of getting anything for their ROI.

I’m confused.
