Hitting the Sandbox

… hardcore.

I can’t say that I’m totally surprised - I mean, I was rolling with my homies on this one. Thinking wow, that didn’t take any time at all to rank for some of those shiny keywords. I also knew, in the back of my mind that I would eventually hit the sandbox. Now, it’s been a long time since I’d bought a new domain and start working on it right away - but this fan site got me excited.

I was rolling with the excitment - hoping that it wouldnt’ end. Well, it ended… with a thud. I’m going to assume that DigitalPoint is connecting with Google now - since this is day two and these are my results:

Fan Site Numbers plumet

I’ve fallen off the board.

Not too worry… I’ve got a few that are hanging on to the top 100. Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m hoping that I’m not left in the sandbox for too long. What’s the usual wait… six months?

Maybe it’s because I’ve not picked up a new domain for quite some time to work on, but man, this site seems to have it the sandbox pretty quickly. I’d say it’s been a bit over 3 weeks since I started the site and now I’m in the box. Did I mention I’m claustrophobic! LOL. Damn. I was hoping for a few months before it hit. I was floating the idea that I may have ended up in the suplimental listings. Would that be another term for “sandbox”?

I checked with my SEO tool and I’ve got 2 pages in the supplimental results. On a good note Yahoo has picked up 22 pages! Better than the one I saw yesterday…

I’ve also added the site to 4 directories using that cool tool that SarahG recommended. Doesn’t seem too bad from what I’ve tried so far. Thanks Sarah!

I get confused sometimes with the SEO-talk.

The fan site still has no listings through Alexa and the PR bar is still greyed out. I registered for BlogTopList and I don’t rank at all there either.

It feels like a curse.

I know it’s just a waiting game. But I’m NOT patient!

LOL.

Fan Site Update - Almost made $2

My Websites, SEO, Web Content 6 Comments »

Yup, I almost had a minor coronary when I saw that I’d made almost $2 yesterday through Adsense with my fan site.  The site itself had 100 uniques that day, and that’s well up on the past couple of days… although I’ve seen a steady increase in traffic.  Woohoo.

Just thought I’d share.

Now I’m off to add some new content for 3 new keywords :)

I know I’m being vague

My Websites, SEO, Web Content 4 Comments »

I hope you don’t me rambling on about the fan site I built, or the fact that I’m being super vague about it.  It’s just that I’m really enjoying working on the site and want to share with you what I can about SEO and what I’ve been earning, even though it’s early days… and because it is still early days I don’t want to let the “cat out of the bag” so to speak until I’ve got all the pages up and running and I’m happy with it.  Although I have a feeling that I’ll never be truely happy with it and always tweaking it to see what I can do better… but that’s ok.  So far I’m really happy with how it’s turned out.

So anyway… I am rambling!

I made over $1 again today with the fansite!

I’m looking forward to kicking a few more keywords into the mix and see where the search engine winds take the site.  Still nothing with PR ranking tool - grey… and Alexa is still ignoring me.  But I took SarahG’s advice and did a search in Alexa for the site.  Hopefully sooner, rather than later the bots will visit and I’ll be seen :)

I’m thinking at some point I might sell the site - maybe 6 months down the road.  Maybe this will make for my first flip.  Or I might just keep carrying on with it, because I enjoy it… oooh, it’s nice to have options!

I spoke too soon!

My Websites, SEO, Web Content 3 Comments »

Well, you know when you’re up your up and when your down… well… you get no clicks on any adsense for the fan site.  That was me today.  Also I found that the traffic to the site took a complete nose dive.  I was wondering if it had anything to do with the weekend?  Holiday in Canada?   The gravitational pull of the moon?  LOL.  I don’t know what happened… but traffic went down and clicks flatlined for the site.

Ah well.  I figured that it is still early days for the site, not yet a month old.  So far a bit over 300 uniques.  Not shabby at all, by my standards… heh.  So I’m hoping to plump up the site a bit more with content and then start promoting it.  I’m not really wanting to promote the site while it’s still young.

So far there is zero recognition by Alexa, Google PR bar, or another blog stat site for this site too.  Makes me wonder what’s up with that?  The site itself is cached by Google and I’m getting hits from Google and other Engines.  But I’m flatlining on any recognition… I guess that’s a wait and see as well.  Since my timing for this site couldn’t have been better (yes, insert sarcasm here) as I just started it after the last Google PR update.

Ah, well…

So I’m going to start working on a few more of the keywords I’ve found for the site and see what happens for traffic after I start on them.  Hopefully I can keep the momentum up… because I’d love to see more $1 days from Google’s Adsense!

Cracked $1 on the Fan Site

My Websites, SEO 3 Comments »

Well, you know what! I cracked $1 today for Google Adsense income for my fan site. I jumped up and down! The site has been live for almost a month and I don’t remember the last time I ever made it over a $1 so quickly with a site. I don’t know how to describe it! I’m over the moon. I feel like I can definitely keep cranking along and start earning more. Maybe I should contain my enthusiasm until I start making a consistant $1 a day with the site… but damn, I’m just happy with this one accomplishment!

:) Happy.
