Making it into a store! You thought I’d say something else didn’t you… heh.
I spent about 4 hours last night changing WordPress into a store. Why? Because I could … and because I like WordPress and know my way around it. So when I heard that I could make WordPress into a store I had to give it a whirl.
I don’t know if any of you have tried to add PayPal to posts in Wordpress. As far as I know we can’t. It can’t be within the WordPress Loop. We can have PayPal donate buttons on our sidebar - but not to sell products.
So yes, I was frustrated and looking for options.
I came across this: Instinct’s WP e-Commerce Lite
I was interested in how you could download a plugin to your site and in just a click of a button - you’ve got a store. I mean… how?
And well it’s been a bit more challenging than the instant click of a button here’s your store sort of deal. I’ve had errors popping up - some of my folders needed to have more access. I am now having trouble accessing the category listings. They are there… but I click and nada. So I’ve put in a help request in the forum. I’ve also tried encorporating a newsletter (they recommend) into the shop. Well… another problem has appeared. It looks like the tables for the database were not created. Apparently I seem to be the only one with the problem. So today I’ll be adding that to the forum to see if I can get some help there.
But apart from the minor headaches - I have to say this looks like a totally kick-up setup. They even have a DropShop 2.0 - and I have to say that looks totally awesome. If I could… I’d buy it to try it out.
I am hoping that I can get my little glitches sorted out in the forum - but they do offer support… for a price. I might have to pay the price to get the store up and running. It just seems to fit what I need in a store right now. If it gets up and running… this could be a lot of fun
There are a few plugins to the site that would be pretty beneficial as well… so I’m off to check them out.

Over at my 30 Day Challenge site, I was talking about how frustrating it was not to have the scripts - or access to something similar to use. Since Dan was so open to sharing what he did, but hanging on to the scripts. Even throwing us a bone that he would try it again but do it for less monetary gain - to help those of us out there who were following the first time… could it be done again.
Very good on the hype.
So what did I do about the site. I found that through all the hype - it was damn hard. No I didn’t really focus as I should have to get things going - but oh, my, god. It was hard. Not that I gave up completely. Noooo. I just got jammed on the scripts. Eventually I found “something” to replace it using WordPress (I was familiar with it) - and it seems to work. I’ve got it set up on a membership basis with content available for those who don’t and eventually I’d be adding content to “hook” customers to buy in.
But it was really difficult to get WordPress to be so flexible.
… and I grumbled.
Where would I find someone to program a site for me? To do what Dan managed to do at his $15k challenge site. I knew/know nothing about programming and outsourcing seemed the way to go. But wouldn’t you know it. I was a little short funds to spend online - I didn’t have $150-$300 for someone to program this for me. So my challenge stalled out.
I was kicking myself in the butt for that one. Honestly. I wanted to do it but was held back by my limitations. Ugh.
Then Will popped up and said that he’d made a script - like the one Dan was using. OMG! I was really happy to hear that he’d made the script. Of course I wanted to hear more about the script - see it in action. I think it looks good. I picked Will’s script offering, like where can people buy it? How much is it? Because I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s followed the $15k Challenge and found it frustrating that those scripts were so elusive.
So if you’re interested in getting your hands on the script please contact Will at:

He’s selling the script for $32

Over at the Entrepreneurial Blog of Oli, Dave and Burt - there is a script available (which I think would be most handy for affiliate marketers).
I decided to sell it along with Resell Rights and Master Resell Rights for every buyer - hopefully this’ll be enough to see the tool out there in use by many people. I may have shot myself in the foot by doing it that way, but we’ll see.
… Resell rights… very good idea! If you go ahead and purchase this script to redirect links - you can go ahead and sell them to others. If I had the $40 to do this - I think I’d most definitely give this a whirl.
Check out the post - if you try it, I’d love to hear what you think of it. Because I’m thinking that my next extra $40 will be going towards purchasing the script.
