I read a lot of blogs. I love to read blogs - you know the ones that are actually personal journeys - where you get to somewhat understand the person writing the blog. Where they’re just trying to be themselves, share their exploits… maybe I’m a closet voyeur… Anyhoo… I really enjoy reading How to be Poor. |
| How to Be Poor is a blog by someone who is just blunt in the way he writes, and because of his no bullshit sort of slant - I love to read the blog. He has a good article on the Importance of Setting Financial Goals. I was reading and it really hit home,
|
I’ve noticed on quite a few blogs, people put up their financial goals, such as “have a house by the age of 25″, “have a steady stream of income of $900 a month”, etc. First of all, it’s NOT THAT EASY! Secondly, while those are great ideas and could be decent motivational kicks in the ass, I think it’s just words…
The bottom line … When you’re starting up, it’s not so easy to make money. Of course, if you already have a mil, you can live off the interest, thus the advantage of starting up ANY business. Otherwise, be ready to bust ass and don’t listen to a bunch of pussies who tell you otherwise.
… what exactly hit home for me? The fact that I write about my exploits in building some blogs/websites to make some extra money and I don’t really get into details. I thought doing something like that would bore the hell out of you reading it. But I mean - if I could find a way to actually make a success of something - or even fail at it - you’d learn something from it. What to do or NOT to do…. and I think I’ve failed you on it. I don’t let you know just how many hours I’ve spent working on the project - what kind of stories I could tell you about affiliate programs that I’ve tried or am trying currently. I just skim over things - and maybe I should change that a bit.
With Project 11/05 I think I will tell you everything I possibly can about it. How many hours I’ve put in - the affiliate programs I’m using - sources of information that I find that would help (or not?) in your affiliate marketing adventures.
I’m just basically going to put it all out there for you. I think I’ve failed you so far in my little jaunt with 11/05 - scared to give away too much - or bore you all in the process. But to hell with it. I’m going to tell you… for free! for nothing! I’m just going to to lay it all out there for you….

This week’s “To-Do List”:
- Keywords - DONE
- Find content (products) for my site - DONE
- Add content to my site - IN PROGRESS
- Show you my site - SCARY, SCARY!
- Write one article
- Submit article
- - - Keep tabs on traffic to the site throughout the Project and let you know how it does.
So far I’ve managed to get a list together of keywords that I’m going to use in my content for the gift basket website and I found 3 gift basket sites that I’m going to use for the content - the two I’ve started with LinkShare have fabulous photos and I think that will be a good draw for people to click and see what delights are in the baskets to purchase. I’ve found one other at ShareaSale - they too seem to have some good photos and I’ll see how it all comes together. With three affiliates that offer gift baskets, I’ll have a good amount of content and then from there tweak and expand the content (which is rather short right now)… but I’ve got time. So I’m not in a panic.
So I’ve managed to get a hold of three things that I’ve wanted to accomplish this week
I’m hoping that I’ll have some more content up and running before I set up my link for you to see the site - and “constructive” criticism is always welcome… “assvice” can go elsewhere. You’ve been warned!!!! LOL

Day one of my Project 11/05 and I’m no where near ready for it to begin. Where the heck did October go? hehe….
Anyway, Project 11/05 is my Gift Basket website. It’s been done a million and one times before… wait actually as of right now there are 20,100,000 results for “Gift Basket”… I think I’m going to have to make a niche for myself, since the keyword Gift Basket has a LOT of competition. Which at some point I might try to break into… but for now - I’m going to look at good niche keywords for this very popular online idea.
This project might have me landing face first into a big pile of crap… but I want to see where I can take my site - develop a list of keywords first - add content daily with great gift basket ideas. Write up an article or two on making gift baskets, gift basket ideas, etc and sending them out to the article publishers (which I’ve never done with any of my other sites…and am currently kicking myself for.. but that’s a whole other ball of chaos).
I am not posting the site yet, since there’s nothing there to look at - just a basic template - and no content what-so-ever. When it gets up and running (hopefully next week this time) I’ll post the site and you can take a look - give your feedback and I can work from there.
So today I’ve set out the following:
- Keyword search for those “niche” keywords.
This week:
- Keywords
- Find content (products) for my site
- Add content to my site
- Show you my site
- Write one article
- Submit article
- - - Keep tabs on traffic to the site throughout the Project and let you know how it does.
Off to the races I go - searching for some great keyword combos and writing up a spreadsheet to organize this crazy project I’ve set myself in. I’m giving myself 30 days to see where this project will take me. If it looks promising I’ll be building on the momentum and working on it for another month after that - and see where it all takes me. (Knowing all too well that new domain names/sites sit in Google Hell for a certain amount of time… but I’m not ruling out Yahoo and MSN for traffic).
Wish me luck!

So my deadline to start my 11/05 project is nearing… and of course I’m nowhere near ready for it. Tonight I’ve got to write up my game plan and get myself on some timelines and see where this project takes me. Yet ANOTHER un-original idea… but I like the topic and I think I’ll have fun doing it.
What I can tell you so far about my Project 11/05:
1. It’s a product blog.
2. It is a topic that I’ve not done… ever… but it interests me.
3. I still have to find my keywords and template. (I am SO FAR BEHIND)…. but I’m not panicing yet!
4. When it’s up and running I’m actually going to post the link on this site for you to see.
– That’s kind of “getting over” my fear of the unknown… and I would appreciate feedback.
Since dreaming up my Project 11/05, I’ve had a bazillion ideas since then… and I’m going to try to write them down - to remember and then when this project is underway… I can start on them. One step at a time, I have to remind myself of that…. one step at a time.
This month on a good note - Google Adsense went up a whole $1…. as long as it’s going up - I don’t care. For November I’m going to try to double my luck on that and try for $10…. although making $10 a day rather than $10 a month would be supa-dupa… I’m not holding my breath… small steps.
See you next month
