Writing Reviews for this Blog

Product Reviews, Web Content No Comments »

For the past couple of days I’ve been looking into other options to make a few extra dollars on this site, without lets say alienating all of you… and you never coming back to see me.   It’s not easy - since everyone has an opinion about ads and reviews and it’s hard to find that fine line between too much and me not making enough to pay my hosting bill.  If you catch my drift.

So I thought I’d wander around the “paid for reviews” sites.  As I mentioned earlier there are some awesome bloggers out there who are willing to give reviews for nothing at all.   But me, I would like to make a few dollars from it, right now, at this point in my thought pattern.

Yes, it’s just how it is at the minute.

Many moons ago I’d signed up with ReviewMe.com - I’ve actually had a couple of reviews come down the tube and I’ve written about said products… but damn that was a long time ago.  I’ve also noticed that my price has come down by $40 to now land me into the $60 range.  When I started I was at $100 a review… now, not so much.

Am I sad about it?  Well, in a way yes - it’s money!  But on the other hand, hell no - and this kind of wins it for me - the fact that more people could afford a review from me.  I know from personal experience that $100 bills aren’t falling down around me to spend on 1 review.  So maybe making it a bit less, more people will be interested.  That’s what I want.  Maybe down the road… popularity will pick up and the price will go up… or not.    Who knows.

All I know, is that it’s been a long time since I’ve had a review request through them.

So I signed up for SponsoredReviews.com - and this is a bit different, I’m bidding on reviews from prospective advertisers.  I have a bid range based on numbers they’ve figured out from my Technorati, Alexa, etc, etc, info.  Not bad - I have a bid range and I use it to score some articles and then get money into my PayPal account.  Since signing up yesterday I put in a bids on 5 articles.  We’ll see if they’re excepted / Will the advertiser barter another price / or will they decline me.  It’s a bit of a wait.

I’m impatient!

Has anyone else tried Review sites and landed in the same boat as me?  No reviews for a while?  Never-ending waiting?  I’d be curious to see… and maybe to make myself feel better knowing that there are those of you out there dealing with the same shit as me :)

Twitter… it’s what’s for dinner

Everyday BS, My Websites, Product Reviews, Projects 4 Comments »

Well, last night was pretty productive… I managed to get a new page up for my PF2007 project. Which I had originally hoped would be done for the end of March. But, you know me - I procrastinate like crazy… life gets in the way…. man, I’ve got an excuse for everything. But last night I think I just had a small panic attack and felt like I had to get “something” done. So I did a new page for my project.

But, like I always do - I finish one thing and dust off another project that I’d started a long time ago. Earlier in the day I did up a new header image for the site, and uploaded it to the site. I had about 10 pages up on the site, but you know, I just wasn’t really happy with the direction - and it was going a bit off course in the way that I had originally wanted it to go. So I deleted all the pages. Then I deleted the layout and put a new one up. I love the layout - from Desperate Curiousity (WritersSpace) called DigitalPop. It’s fun colours and nice three column layout was a really nice change from the current layout seen on this site. So I went ahead and modified the layout to suit the dusted off old project of mine… I’ll call SMS2007.

Currently no content… but I have a really nice layout. :P

But with the theme comes a button called Twitter. Now I’ve heard the rumblings about Twitter. I didn’t really read anything further than it was something new and people were checking it out. So of course… since I have the button on the site - I signed up.

Ummm… it’s different. I signed up - that was easy. I added some “twitter” in the - what am I doing box provided. Because I don’t have a lot of friends who would appreciate the twitter thing, I haven’t added anyone. I can see it being handy to keep people posted on events. But it doesn’t give you a lot of space to write (something like 150 characters) - which I suppose is enough, or it turns into a blog thing. I don’t really know if it will be overly useful for me and the site I’m using it on… but I’ll give it a shot for the month of April and see if in the end its useful - or more of a waste of time.

Anyhoo… hopefully tonight I’ll have a bit of extra time to start building up the content for SMS2007. I’m kind of excited… many projects… so little time… I lurve it!

Have you heard of Moola.com?

Everyday BS, Product Reviews, Wish I'd Thought of That 9 Comments »

Ok, here’s the thing - Moola.com is totally addictive. Totally. I signed up for their beta testing - where you can play games online for money. Not a new idea, but I like money so I thought why not ;)

You sign up for free and you get a free penny to start the whole process. If you win - you double your money. You have the opportunity to double your money all the way up to $10,000,000. Of course that sounds great - and EASY right?! Of course nothing is ever that easy, but it’s a fun way to pass some time.

I’ve managed to get up to .64 cents (oh yeah… champaign for everyone!!!… lol).

So after all of that - if you’d like to give it a try I’ve got 4 offers to sign up. Just comment here if you’d like one with a legit email address and I’ll send them along. (you can also just sign up for the beta test, but you’ll have to wait a few days or so before you can get in).

Check it out: Moola.com (not an affiliate link)

… on a sidenote: It’s an ingenious way for us to watch the ads… and they make money ;)

Is it that Easy? RSS MINI

My Websites, Niche Websites, Product Reviews 2 Comments »

I suppose this is a review of sorts to the software called RSS MINI. This download offers a quick way to build websites in PHP faster than you can say… Wazzzup. Here’s what they say:

RSSMini File is another script with which you can make a full website of your choice! You can add any pages! Well… Adding Pages… That Seems Boring… Not with RSSMini File! Adding new pages was never been easier before! All you got a do is duplicate a file and rename! RSSMini File displays content based on the file name! All you need to do is rename it! Simple! You can add unlimited pages!

It seems pretty simple doesn’t it? So of course I took a peek at their demo and then downloaded the script. So tonight (or sometime hopefully this weekend) I’ll be able to put it on a site and see how “easy” it is to make a site.

If it saves time, is worthwhile… why not right? Has anyone else given this program a try?

… more of an update later!

Wadda mean it doesn’t work???

Everyday BS, Product Reviews, Projects, Web Development 6 Comments »

For the past couple of days I’ve been mulling over some ideas. Mostly because I saw how I was doing in the Affiliate Marketing end of things… maybe it’s the time of year or I’m just tired of being nickled and dimed to death by the affiliates I’ve signed up with.

Of course I love my nickles and dimes.

I just want a bigger cut.

Who doesn’t??

Anyway…

I love Amazon. I really do - lots of available merchandise to flog on your sites. Of course they only pay out 4% per sale (when you start out each quarter and then you can move up the ranks… only to have to start over each quarter. Bah!) So anyway… I love the products - not so fond of the payout. Since working with Amazon more and more, I’ve had a little success with them. Actually their my biggest success so far. Which makes me sad about the 4% (yes, I’m really stuck on that 4% aren’t I!). I’ve made almost $2000 for them. Awesome right? So awesome I’ve made just over $100 dollars with them - for the effort. That makes me sad…. mad… *shaking my fist in the air*. I totally get that they need to make their money too - but I just wish the affiliate cut was more than 4% (ok, I’ll stop now!).

So my thought process has been mulling over the whole “different income streams” idea. Which makes sense - why put all your eggs in one basket right? But what different streams could I get into?

    ClickBank Products
    Affiliate Products
    Ebooks
    PPC engines
    …. sell my own products??
    Dropshipping

They all ran through my mind. I’ve been doing a little on the Clickbank stuff, working my butt off for the Affiliate Products, not really gotten into eBooks…. PPC engines - nice to suppliment (but I think having them on some of my affiliate sites takes away a potential sale… but I’ll deal with that later). Dropshipping - scary…. don’t know where to look for reliable/legit dropshippers. Selling my own products - sounds nice, but what do I have to offer?

Well, I thought about the last one a lot.

I think I have something to offer.

I have a website I could offer it on.

I wanted a shopping cart.

I looked around at the free carts available.

Saw that Template Monster was offering a really nice looking template for Zen Cart - for free. So I loaded Zen Cart up, and added the template from Template Monster. Did it work. Not so much. Not at all. The instructions for loading it up were poor - and I will admit that I didn’t ask their support for help (didn’t really think of it… and I’m not sure what they’d offer someone who just took a free template anyway). But it didn’t work. It was very, very frustrating. I’m not sure going by that experience with the free template I’d want to bother buying one from them. Those ZenCart templates are a bit more expensive than their run of the mill templates they have on offer.

I will admit that when I loaded their free Wordpress templates - I didn’t have any problems. It could just be the template I downloaded… maybe I’m not “getting it”. But I’m not that dumb. I just don’t think it works. Anyone else tried the ZenCart Free template from TemplateMonster… and it worked?

Then I tried working on Zen Cart itself. I just got fed up (because of the template debacle). So I uninstalled it and now I’m working with CubeCart. I’ve got one of their basic templates up - and now I’m going to try it out.

… Really after about 1 1/2 hours I realized that I hadn’t really accomplished much and decided to play the Sims 2 before I went to bed.

I hope CubeCart isn’t quite so challenging template-wise. :P
