Is it that Easy? RSS MINI

My Websites, Niche Websites, Product Reviews 2 Comments »

I suppose this is a review of sorts to the software called RSS MINI. This download offers a quick way to build websites in PHP faster than you can say… Wazzzup. Here’s what they say:

RSSMini File is another script with which you can make a full website of your choice! You can add any pages! Well… Adding Pages… That Seems Boring… Not with RSSMini File! Adding new pages was never been easier before! All you got a do is duplicate a file and rename! RSSMini File displays content based on the file name! All you need to do is rename it! Simple! You can add unlimited pages!

It seems pretty simple doesn’t it? So of course I took a peek at their demo and then downloaded the script. So tonight (or sometime hopefully this weekend) I’ll be able to put it on a site and see how “easy” it is to make a site.

If it saves time, is worthwhile… why not right? Has anyone else given this program a try?

… more of an update later!

CRAP!!! CRAP!!! CRAP!!! CRAP!!! CRAP!!! CRAP!!!

DAMN IT. I spent a few days working on my Health/Beauty website and I have to say that it was looking pretty damn good. I put products up from CJ and away I went. I even went so far as to promote the site through adWords. I was getting traffic, getting clicks… but no sales. Weird… I thought I had a pretty good site - straight forward and I was targeting to a specific page with my ads. It was good.

Until I realized that the advertiser that I have listed for 99% of my products was deactivated.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRGGGG.

So I basically had people clicking on dead links. You have no idea how freakin’ frustrated I am right now. I went in to check to see if I needed to update my application with them… but no - it’s a “them” not “me” issue. CRAP.

So that site is officially on the backburner. I’m not taking down the links quite yet - the images, etc are still showing. It could be that they’re just slow to pay up for CJ action. I’m not sure if they’ll be back, but it’s still early days. I’ll give them till the beginning of September before I start throwing a hissy fit over all that damn work for nothing… sort of thing.

Derailment

Everyday BS, My Websites, Niche Websites 4 Comments »

… my income. DERAILED!! I’m not sure what’s been going on with the Internet… is it the Internet? Are people just not visiting because of the summer? Am I not doing enough backlinking, meta-tagging, worshipping the right search engines? I’m sort of feeling… derailed.

I have been working on a few things - I’m getting an eBook set up on Blenderboy.com and hoping that it makes me a few dollars… anyone up for some rather delicious Smoothies? It’s not done yet - I’m debating on how to setup the download/payment system for it. So right now it’s a bit of a shell… not done… don’t hassle me about it yet ;)

I have also stopped my AdWords campaigns. All of them. I went in with the idea of a $1 a day - HOPING to come out ahead of the game. But it is quite the learning curve. I’ve had a couple of the campaigns that have worked REALLY well click-wise, but have failed in making any sales/leads for me. So I’m thinking it’s the landing pages that need some work. So I’m going to try my hand at making some landing pages and see what happens (yes, with good relavent content… because of the Google lockdown on spammy landing pages… and I wouldn’t really want to go spammy anyway… but I just have to say it).

Websites… oh my. I have been thinking of some website ideas - and because of my addiction to buying domain names… that I’ve been working on new templates, working on HTML sites, and an Amazon store - to see where it takes me, and hopefully will score me a few dollars in the process. I’ve really been considering taking my domains and looking at them as Virtual Real Estate - and build them up and then sell them on places like SitePoint, etc. Keeping a few that are near and dear to me and then selling off the rest and keep going - maybe building up to buying existing sites and monetizing them - to resell later on down the road.

Just an idea mind you - but it’s kind of exciting to think that it could be done.

Another Method to Organizing your Business

Everyday BS, Niche Websites, Staying Focused 2 Comments »

As I found this via Business Opportunites Weblog - Do it Yourself Strategic Planning. I thought this was a good point - write it down. Put all your ideas in one place, be it a folder on your computer or in a shoe box under your bed. But keep the ideas flowing, and write them down so you don’t forget.

Gladys Edmunds in USA Today:

Strategic planning is not new. What’s new is that names and labels have been given to the unnamed things entrepreneurs have successfully done for years.

For years I kept a shoe box on the corner of my desk. I told my employees to clip or make a note anything they read in the newspaper or heard on radio or television relating to our industry and then drop it in the box.

And, if they read or heard anything about our customers, potential customers, or political policies that affected our business, they were to note that also.

Each weekend I took the box home and went through it for information and ideas to help me develop strategies for building the business.

Today it could be called strategic planning; I called it “figuring out how to get more business.”

This was a great article for me right now, because here I am trying to figure out a gameplan to make my websites more successful. I need to get more into writing things down, research more, be more observant as to what’s going on in the industry and even what’s going on with my site itself. Popular pages, entry/exit pages, keywords that have been picked up for my site. Just get it going.

I really like what she writes for her conclusion:

Creating strategies to meet your goals can and should be fun. So, until you call in the pros, use your imagination and enjoy!

…. absolutely!

BORING

My Websites, Niche Websites No Comments »

Over the past few days, I’ve not really done anything too interesting.  In fact I’ve not really done anything at all.  I think all in all I’ve become a bit boring to read.  I go through my daily RSS feeds and read about how others are doing, what they’re doing and wishing I had come up with some of those kick butt ideas.

But recently I’ve just been rolling with it all.  Carrying on making more content for some of my sites, adding products, and just going into a very boring routine.

I did start a new blog - since everyone around me (at least) seems to be quite concerned about the rise in gas prices.  Also I don’t see gas fueled cars going away anytime soon - so I thought I’d try this topic.  Gas Prices Index would be my May project to see how it works out.  I think this month I’ll be focusing primarily on this site - get it a little more optimised with articles… some articles I’ll write (I hope too anyway) and then go from there.  I’m on the lookout for some little javascripts or scripts that will pull in prices from various locations - the high prices/low prices.  But I’ve not found any… yet.  (If you know of any…send a link or two my way!).

So this month Gas Prices Index will be my new site that I’ll be focusing on while I maintain some of the other sites I have running - and require a few updates.  I’m really trying to focus on building them and then having them provide me with a passive income.  I think my shortfall to all of this is trying to build up backlinks - it’s relatively hard to do - when most sites don’t allow linking through blogs, crappy directories, etc.  Where to find the quality links - that’s also on my todo list for May.
