I’ve been looking to expand my little empire and I’ve got some older sites that are still clunking along and it’s all good - and I’m looking at trying to expand my little empire by doing some side projects away from the everyday - offline and on. Just to keep my sanity and the momentum going with what I’d love to do.
I applied for a job over at Pro Blogger on the job boards for B5 Media… well, why not - they’re looking at getting into fansites too. Hmmm… go figure. Is that where the money is? LOL.
So I thought I could definitely learn from taking a job like that with them. But today I got my rejection letter. In a way I was slightly relieved, because to be quite honest you’d need to dedicate a ton of time to them. I have no idea what the pay would be like - is it a cut from the advertising? Were they looking for pre-established *insert site here* so they could use the new PR influx and IP addy… and add it to their collective? Who knows - I got the shove. I would have liked to have learned a bit with them - but what the hell. Other opportunities will make their appearance I’m sure.
This has definitely kicked my ass into gear to keep working on these fan sites I’ve developed.

Well, yesterday I spent some time searching for a template that would work well with what I had in mind for my Fan Site #3. I had one template that I just love - but I may have “over done” it, because I’ve been using it on almost everything. I was thinking a little change would be good, since I’m hoping to interlink the sites at some point, and I didn’t want them to look like they all came from the same template… no matter how modified I made them… I needed to go for a bit of a switch up.
So I looked around for something new and fun - and easy to modify
I realize now that there are a lot of shitty looking templates out there. Made me think I should start making some that may not be as shitty. I guess I should clarify - what I mean by shitty is that some just look like different colours of the same layout - all the time. I know it’s not easy to try something different - and just how different can you be when you need 1,2 or 3 columns… I don’t know… I guess I was looking for something eye-catching and they were just so few and far between it made me kind of sad.
But that’s a different rant… for a different day
Fan Site #3 is up.
No content… and I’m going to have to fiddle around with the Google Adsense on the site - it was a bit of a rush job as I had about 20 minutes last night to get things going. So tonight I’m hoping to get a little more done and maybe get a little more keyword research done on some of my sites. Other than that… things are rolling along - I’ve managed to keep Adsense up over $2 this month (most days)… which is awesome and all apart of my “cunning” plan… LOL. It’s really kind of exciting to see the adsense climb up - and fingers crossed it stays that way or gets better with the next PR update. I noticed on my two fan sites - that the google bar is no longer grey. I’ve got a crisp clear zero page rank… but it’s not grey! LOL.
Ah, well… working on fan site #3 and keywords. Good times
What are your plans for the weekend?

I know, I probably shouldn’t have… but I’ve been having actual fun at making these sites, so I’ve taken the plunge and bought Fan Site #3 domain name yesterday. I’ve been thinking about what to do next and I’ve been working (more steadily) on Fan Site #1 and Fan Site #2 than my other sites. I’ll get to those sites eventually… but I’m having FUN with these… so I’m rolling with it.
Is there a plan to go along with this purchase? Well, I’m hoping so - I’m hoping that when the 3 sites are built up that I’ll be making a minumum of $90 a month on Adsense - which is my main player… and how I’ve wanted it to be. If I can make more - I’ll be more than happy - that’s going to take a lot of testing of Adsense placement/colours/etc. I’ve picked topics that I really enjoy and I’ve got about 3 other websites - not fan site related - that I plan on building up as well by the end of the year.
I was thinking with my Fan Site #1 that I might be putting too many offers online - that it might be affecting my Adsense revenue - you know, too many choices for the people who visit… that I end up diluting the possible revenue… I’m not sure - I know all about the “eggs in one basket” scenario. For now I’m sticking with my first thought - work on the Adsense and then expand out. On all three sites. See where it takes me.
I’ve now got 28 people signed up to my Fan Site #1 newsletter - and I’m pretty stoked about it. I’ve managed to send out 2 newsletters and the response has been “middle of the road”. I’m hoping that it will pick up and I’ll eventually find that “golden ticket” that will get the clicks and the sales in my advertising on the newsletter.
It’s going rather well this month - and I’m hoping to top $40 with Adsense… and I’m hoping to get Fan Site #2 done to the point where I’m happy and then it’s just a matter of adding content. So then I can move on to Fan Site #3
