… like a house of cards… only more dramatic

They all came crashing down. I put up my fan site #4 and submitted it to multiple social sites like Digg, Technorati, Stumbleupon, Tumblr - and I had moderate first day success - as I gushed about on Friday.

On friday I had honestly thought I’d tapped into something most excellent and I really wished at that time I’d done what I’d done for my other 3 fan sites. Guess what - no more jubilation for this girl. The house of cards has come crashing down around me. I’m pumping my fist madly in the air and giving the finger to the monitor where I’m currently looking at my site stats.

I knew this would happen.

… and it did. But you know, I was just “hoping” this time would be a bit different. I think my fan site #4 has nose-dived into never never land. Actually all my fan sites have nose-dived. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the Google PR update? Are they tweaking the algorithm again? See - this is what happens when I’ve got one search engine that’s sending me most of my traffic. Maybe it’s a weekend thing too - I always see a decline in hits on the weekend.

It could be so many things. I ‘m going to ride out the slump - keep doing what I’ve always done. I’m going back to adding more content to the site. I’m having a hell of a time leaving fan site #4 as a mostly static site too. I guess I’ve got WordPress engrained in my system and I have the mantra “content, content, content” rolling through my head - that to rank you need new content. I mean, what do people do with static sites? How to they ever hope to compete?

Other rants for another day….

Either way - this weekend has SUCKED for search results = clicks = money honey for yours truely. I’m hoping this week it picks up. I’m wondering once a sites gone through all that submission stuff to those networks if that’s it. No more link love for you - I’ve always had a hard time with the backlinks sort of thing. What do you do to get the link love?

Website Ideas… changing things up

Fan Site #2 1 Comment »

I still have a bit of work to do with fan site #2 - and I’m kind of embarrassed with how long it’s taking me to finish it up - I’ve had it up and running for a couple of months now and I’m still blanking on several necessary pages to the site.  It’s not that I don’t have content for them… it’s just not been a focus for me with this site.  I’ve been working on content.  Lovely content.  Content so far that hasn’t got me anywhere int he SERPS… yet.   I’ve definitely got to kick that up a knotch.

This past weekend I got my keyword list for the site - and now it’s a matter of attacking the big keywords.  Go into my stats - what are people looking for when they end up at the site.  Exploit it.   I’m also thinking that I need to switch around some of the ad specs/spaces and try out what’s been working on Fan Site #1 and put it here as well… why not - test, test, test.  It’s time consuming, but I’ve had more success with this method than with anything I’ve tried in the past.

I’m also thinking of adding a sub-domain or two - one of which I had planned on using an Amazon affiliate script… but now I’m leaning more towards Mark’s Ebay/Amazon Mashup script.  It just looks more fun - and just another way to test the waters and try something NEW.  If it doesn’t float the boat, I can always go back to my older script - which isn’t so old… but in the order of things, I just want something different.

But I do have to say that last night was productive in my little content writing and I’m happy to say that I’m no where near caught up!  LOL.

Ah fooey

I’ve been looking to expand my little empire and I’ve got some older sites that are still clunking along and it’s all good - and I’m looking at trying to expand my little empire by doing some side projects away from the everyday - offline and on.  Just to keep my sanity and the momentum going with what I’d love to do.

I applied for a job over at Pro Blogger on the job boards for B5 Media… well, why not - they’re looking at getting into fansites too.  Hmmm… go figure.  Is that where the money is?  LOL.

So I thought I could definitely learn from taking a job like that with them.  But today I got my rejection letter.  In a way I was slightly relieved, because to be quite honest you’d need to dedicate a ton of time to them.  I have no idea what the pay would be like - is it a cut from the advertising?  Were they looking for pre-established *insert site here* so they could use the new PR influx and IP addy… and add it to their collective?  Who knows - I got the shove.  I would have liked to have learned a bit with them - but what the hell.  Other opportunities will make their appearance I’m sure.

This has definitely kicked my ass into gear to keep working on these fan sites I’ve developed.
