Working on CSS

Adult Content, My Websites 4 Comments »

I’ve spent a bit of time the past couple of days trying to get more into the world of CSS. I knew about the “basics” and that was all good. But I really wanted to set about tweaking these basics to see if I could make the site look more like how I wanted - and if I ever wanted to change things up … it would be easier in CSS, which I was really trying to do for the site.

So far, so good I think. I really need to fill the site now with a bit of content but the main page is really coming together (thank god!) and I’m still hoping to have it completed by the end of the month. I want to see a little more success with this sort of site than I have in the time that I’ve had the other sites (of that adult nature) up and running. With occassional sales, I know that there is money to be made. I also know it’s a pain in the ass to rank well in this area. Competition is crazy - and I’m thinking I’m a bit crazy to do it too. But I’m also thinking if I could even get a small piece of that pie in the sky - I’m well on my way.

So back to learning more about CSS and all that good stuff.

Lost a post and made me cry

Adult Content, Everyday BS, My Websites 2 Comments »

I hate it when my computer decides that it hates me and then hangs up… nothing works… white screens and a meltdown and this usually happens when I writing about something here. So of course do I remember what it was I was writing about - well, not in so many words. DAMN!!! I hate that too, because it wasn’t too bad.

So I’ll hobble together my thoughts and see if I can “recreate” the beauty of it all. Heh.

Last night I decided to dust off one of my domain names, it actually had a site too - but I’d not been there in so long I’d forgotten what the password was for the directory and too, I just didn’t really like the directory either. So I nuked it. Then I went around to other sites in that niche to see what they were doing - how were they getting links and PR love, that for the love of God I can’t seem to get for this niche of mine. (It’s a wee bit adult related…. ok it’s A LOT adult related content) which Google seems to hate with a passion. So I was curious to see how they’d built up their sites to PR 4’s and 5’s. Because, that’s just what I do… and I was sort of surprised that all backlinks to the sites that I saw were from themselves. I was hoping to find a few links from outbound sites - so that maybe I could scoop a link or two from them as well. But no, no such luck.

So now last night I went back to the PR 4’s and PR 5 sites and took a look around to see what they’d done. I have several blog style sites - which are great to update, but I’ve not had great success in converting the visitors… or getting visitors for that matter to these adult sites.

I’ve been to the boards searching for help to get more traffic - but I’m not really in the mood to spend cash (not quite yet) and the usual routes to place ads on sites… isn’t really flying for me either at the moment. So I think I’ll be working on my site, build up the content and then see if I can find a few sites to exchange links with, maybe hunt down some text link exchange programs that don’t mind placing on adult sites and see where it takes me.

I’m hoping to have this site up and running at the end of the month.

With my other sites, I’ve not really seen much action lately. My usual good performing sites, haven’t really been performing - could it be the spring break lull. I’m hoping that’s it. Maybe I need to focus on link exchanges and getting my sites out there into the Internet a bit more. Maybe I need to start posting more on other blogs, and all that good stuff.

Contemplating my Navel

I have to say a big thank you to everyone who commented on my last post about Adult Content - would you do it? I would have to admit that I was sort of surprised / relieved by the comments on it. I was totally prepared for some condemnation for falling right off into the dark side of the Internet - but you were all very supportive and if you could do it you would…. it was just really “nice”.

I’m also going to give it a try.

I bought a domain name and thanks to Brandon - I’m going to try one tactic he offered up. I’m not sure how it’s going to work out, but as the idea unfolds I’ll share it with you. All the good, bad and ugly of it. *I can tell you’re excited!!! LOL* I’m not sure I’m going to dive right into this and abandon all other forms of Affiliate Marketing - I’m just going to see where it takes me. Just how hard is it to break into a niche in the Adult content world with not a lot of contacts to share links with… or just being a plain ol’ noob to the whole thing.

Once again thanks so much for your feedback everyone! This has really given me a chance to think things through… and realize that maybe I’ll give it a whirl and see what happens next…

Would you Consider Adult Content?

Adult Content, Everyday BS 21 Comments »

If you’ve been reading this blog long enough - I have few holdups when doing affiliate marketing online. I mean, I’m all for trying out a new niche, old niche, a niche… in regards to affiliate marketing. Of course there are some areas of the Internet that not a lot of people want to get involved in, and I completely understand.

One part of that taboo subject matter is the business of Adult Content.

You know it’s there - and the payouts are pretty outstanding. So how about that 4 billion dollar a year industry…. would you try it out? There are some niche topics, I just wouldn’t want to touch. But there is some that doesn’t appear too horrible either. People like sex, they like watching it in the privacy of their own home. If the sites follow the laws of the country - then why not give it a whirl? I had thought about it before…. but never really went anywhere with it.

Of course being a woman should I be mortified by just the thought of trying it out - exploitation of women… the seedy underworld that Porn floats on… you know. Of course there those of you out there who morally just don’t do it either. I don’t blame you. I just wouldn’t really know where to start. I don’t think it would be a very easy niche to get into either. There is a lot of competition out there - if we judge the spam content in our inboxes…. but I’m not looking to spam - just build a site. How hard would it be to get traffic to it? Do the search engines have filters on that sort of thing?

I’m just rambling… and would really like to hear what you think.

Adult Site #1

Adult Content 2 Comments »

Well you know I’ve decided to plunge into this head first. You have to realize that the reason I’m doing a site like this is an experiment. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it … again - this is a 4 billion dollar industry. I’m chasing the $$. I’m not trying to bring Adult content to children or people who just don’t want to see it to their computers. I’m not spamming - I’m just building a website on some Adult content (and it’s sooo not as “pornographic” as you might think). I’m using this just as a way to see if this is actually a market that can be profitable. I’m not apologizing at all for trying this category out - this is the perfect opportunity to see if it works.

We’ll see. This site has been up since January 2005 in one way shape or form. I’ve just recently converted it to a blog format. Easy to add new content…. and I don’t have to spend much time on it fixing the layout and stuff.

So here’s what I’ve got so far:

Google Page Cached: January 18, 2005
Backlinks as of August 24, 2005:
Google: — | Yahoo: 36 | MSN: 4 | Teoma:3
Total: 43

I did notice when I did a backlinks check through the Google toolbar that I had 1 backlink to the site.

I’ve had 18 clickthroughs on my affiliate links up today… but no sales. *fingers crossed*

I’m wondering about Adult Content sites if they are penalized by some filter through Google. It sure seems to take a long time for sites to be noticed by Google with this sort of content. Also the blog version of the site hasn’t been in effect that long. And I’ve noticed that it isn’t easy to get backlinks for this sort of topic….

There are tons of affiliate programs out there - I’ve signed up for a few of them and they seem pretty decent. I wonder if Adult content affiliate programs pay on time? I suppose only time will tell.
