Things about GoDaddy.com

Domain Registrars Comments

Well, if you read this blog regularly… you’ll see I’ve been having a few problems with Registerfly or rather their PayPal system isn’t up and running and it’s pissing me off :P So rather than just sit and be pissy all day I thought I’d do a bit of investigating into domain registrars… that I’ve come across in the past couple of days.

So here we go, with the Domain Registrar….

GoDaddy.com
I think everyone has heard of GoDaddy at some point. I think they really got their exposure with those SuperBowl ads and the momentum just kept going. I went to the site and the first thing that went through my mind was… “Holy Crap they’ve got a lot of stuff here”.

I was giddy with excitement of a new opportunity. That feeling soon disappeared when I spent five minutes trying to find where to sign up. Ummm… might want to make that a bit more obvious.

Well I find where I need to sign up and it was super easy after that - quick and easy to become a member when you find the link. *cough, cough* But when I got logged in, I then got a bit confused as to where I had to go to register a new domain. I found that link after about another five minutes of looking around.

No worries I thought, its just because I’m new to the site and need to become more aquainted with it all. But I would wonder how the “newbies” find their way around that site…. to me, in my own opinion - the site seems to want to sell you everything… and in the process confuses the hell out of you. But it’s GoDaddy… they’re big and feel that they can. I don’t know.

So today I decided to buy my first domain through them. I thought I was in luck because they offered PayPal as an option. I went through their registration process and when it got to the point of paying - I was led to PayPal… no problem so far I thought… this will be good. They offered WhoIs protection and that was perfect… I thought I was on my way.

I clicked on their PayPal button and was wisked away to PayPal…. I log in…. and then it askes me for my credit card number.

*deep breath*

FRUSTRATION ensues.

I use PayPal because I DON’T have a credit card. I had money in my PayPal account, but it didn’t give me an option to move funds from there to GoDaddy - they just wanted the Card. So my only option available to me was to cancel.

I thought maybe I’d missed a step so I went back through the process and ended up at the same place as before…. CREDIT CARD VILLE. Damn it. It was so frustrating. So taking this as an omen I didn’t attempt to buy a domain name from them, because of the credit card debaucle. It is very frustrating when they offer PayPal… but really just want your damn credit card.

So what’s a girl to do? I gave up. Plain and simple, I just didn’t have time to fart around with GoDaddy. I decided that I was going to look somewhere else. I’d heard good things about NameCheap.com and so that’s my next story in my mini-series about Domain Registrars.

Registerfly … Part II

Domain Registrars Comments

Yes, I’m going to bore you all with the latest ongoing saga in my life…. Registerfly. Registerfly, I would like to say, has been nothing but good to me - I can get domains at super cheap prices and lock them up and hold them close… also I can hide my identity behind their “Protect Whois” Service - absolutely fabulous.

I’m just pissed about PayPal. I got a response from them last night in regards to my problem… and it was one of those lovely “Canned” responses - you know, the ones that are so generic and don’t answer anything specific.

I was Pissed.

So I wrote them back, once again explaining my situation to them and their options wouldn’t really work because of where I live I can’t use a majority of their other payment options…. *sigh*, the frustration! So I get another response this morning and they’ve closed the ticket I’d opened with… “the PayPal system should be up in the next couple of weeks” sort of thing… and to send a wire transfer to them.

…. I’m still Pissed.

*vent, vent, vent*

Problems with Registerfly

Domain Registrars Comments

I will be the first to admit that I love Registerfly as a domain host. They’ve got a fabulous layout and it’s easy to figure out where everything is… they offer a lot of stuff. I “was” so happy using them.

Until the past few weeks that is….

For several months now their PayPal option has been down because they’re doing upgrades to their system - they offered the alternative of putting in a support ticket and all would be taken care of and money would be transfered from your PayPal account to Registerfly. And it was working just fine for me until October 14th.

That was the day I put in a support ticket to put money into my Registerfly account from PayPal. I got a support ticket back saying that they were still upgrading and pick an alternative. They do have a good alternate solutions… if you live in the US or Europe. I don’t live in either… so my only option and best option (#1 reason why I get domains from them… is because of PayPal).

So ok, no alternative… and I don’t know what to do? I sent a request in yesterday to see if they could add money for me manually. I’ve yet to hear back and see what they’ve got for a response.

Why the panic? I’ve got domains coming up for renewal… and no money in Registerfly. So what do I do as an alternative.

I just registered at GoDaddy.

I’ll see what their transfer rates are… and if worse comes to worse… I’ll start transferring over.

Registerfly - love ya - but this has been an issue for months.

It needs to be resovled!
