Registerfly… terminated

Domain Registrars 3 Comments »

Incase you have some domains with Registerfly.com you might want to start transferring those out of there ASAP. I found this over at BoogyBonBon and it’s an interesting read - since I’ve got quite a few domains with them. That I now have to get transferred. I knew Registerfly wasn’t doing well, and I’d started transferring a while ago… now I’m going to have to step it up.

… and we didn’t see this coming?

Google has now entered the world of domain registration. I was over at Small Biz Blog and they’ve got the scoop that Google will be selling domain names for $10 a pop. I guess this would make sense, since they’re working on their free online tools - why not make it a one-stop-shop for all your Internet needs…. right?

I guess I’m not surprised….

… should the small(er) domain registrars start to worry now that Google is moving into domain registration? In the end would it really matter? I don’t think I’d end up going to Google any time soon. I rather like NameCheap as my registrar… unless something goes rather pear-shaped on their end and they no longer accept PayPal (ie: Registerfly…. boooo!) - on a sidenote… lol. Registerfly has put PayPal back on their method of payment. Perhaps that was due to a big loss of customers… sometimes I have to shake my head.

Anyhoo… back to Google :) I don’t know if it is a massive shakeup for domain registrars that Google is now playing the same game they are.

As they said at Small Biz Blog:

Domains registered with Google will be automatically set up to work with several other company products, including e-mail, calendaring and instant messaging. Google has been allowing domain name owners to use Gmail to configure their own email for the last year, but this new partnership simply packages a domain name and email with a pretty bow.

… that pretty much sums it up. Don’t you think?

Domain Insanity

Domain Registrars, Everyday BS, My Websites No Comments »

With my little side-project for some “passive” income, I’ve decided to try expired/parked domains as a source for this passive income. This is quite the learning curve, but I thought I’d dedicate a page to it:

Project Domain Insanity

I’ve included resources I’ve used, that in one way or another - helped me buy/find these domain names. Other links are just interesting sites, other peoples ideas on how they can monitize their sites… as I find information on Expired Domains - I’ll be posting it on this page.

Damn it…Registerfly.com

You know I’m a loyal type of girl. I have a really hard time when I’ve found something I love to let it go. Unfortunately I think I’m going to have to let go of my domain registrar - Registerfly.com . Why you wonder? Now I’ve LOVED my Registerfly - and the main reason why I loved my Registerfly was because they had a great system - and you could use PayPal.

I’m one of those people in the world without a Credit Card… ummm…yeah. So anyway - I loved Registerfly because they had PayPal. I use PayPal for almost everything. But now Registerfly isn’t using PayPal anymore - so I’m mightly hooped when trying to pay for stuff through Registerfly.

*sigh*

I’m kind of choked over this whole situation too. Their support staff told me that they were upgrading their system and PayPal was to make an appearance in the near future. Then it never happened. Not at all. Then they wanted money from me - that was supposed to be taken out of my PayPal account MONTHS ago. They didn’t do it - and I had to borrow a credit card to pay them because their various options (and there are a few - I’ll give them that), but they aren’t “useable” in my country… um, Canada. Or the stuff they offer takes a whole lot of work compared to the convenience of PayPal. Crap. Crap. Crap. So not only did they fudge the fact that there wasn’t going to be anymore PayPal…they offer payments to be made by means that aren’t accessable by all. I’m into speed so sending a money order/cheque isn’t really what I want to do either.

It’s been a blast Registerfly… but I’m going to have to let you go.

There’s something about NameCheap.com

After all the frustration with GoDaddy.com I decided to make yet another leap into the world of Domain Hosting while my Registerfly account was being updated with their PayPal upgrades. I decided to give NameCheap.com a try.

NameCheap offers domain name registration and transfers for as low as $8.88 - which isn’t so bad is it? They also offer FREE domain name “WhoIs” protection with each new domain that you register. Signing up wasn’t as hard to find as it was on GoDaddy.com and within a few minutes I had my new account.

NameCheap offered PayPal as an option - which was why I decided to give them a try after everything else I’d been through with those darn registrars before. Within a few minutes I had transfered $25 dollars into my account with NameCheap and I was ready to rumble! What I liked about the whole PayPal process with NameCheap was the fact that it was all in real-time. For me there wasn’t any lag-time between the two sites… which totally rocked.

So I bought my first domain with them, and I got Free Whois Protection as promised… and it went really smoothly. Just the way I like it… although currently I feel a little odd - I have nothing to bitch about with these guys … yet ;)
