Somewhere along the line I dropped the ball

Everyday BS Add comments

I've Dropped the BallIt’s been rather quiet around these parts for a few weeks now and it’s because I’m FREAKIN’ busy! No word of a lie, I’m running on empty. Not that filling up on a good Timmies coffee every day doesn’t make me happy - but I’m thinking I need to slow it down a little.

Ok… I had to re-read that last line. I never thought I’d ever have to say that.

I am seriously stressed out and totally behind on my time frames. TOTALLY. Which isn’t the greatest because I’m letting people down by being behind on things. I am also getting a severe case of “I’m so totally doing this by myself… and I need help” syndrome. Again - never thought I’d say it. But I am. There is just too much to do - and too much I don’t really know and I need some help.

I’ve been reading some Freelance sites, and the other day one of them touched on the fact that as an entrepreneur - as a freelancer - as someone who’s looking to make money online - SOMETIMES YOU CAN’T DO IT ALL. I had to emphasis the last bit, because seriously I think we’re all out there busting our butts trying to make some extra cash and sometimes we need help and because we’re so busy, so on the verge of having a breakdown, we forget that there is a whole whack of people out there who can help ease the burden of being everything to everyone.

Now that’s all swell and awesome and warm fuzzied to death. My problem in the past is that I didn’t have the money to get people to help me out. It’s the money - so I had to be everything. I needed to be in control of everything and now I know I can’t do it. I need some help. Now my problem is where can I find this help. Reliable help. Help when I need it - it’s not like I would need this help all the time… but time to time - when things pick up. It’s hard - it’s like having a business! LOL. I guess I’m looking for someone who wouldn’t mind the extra work every now and again, or maybe I have to pull it up a knotch and actually get out there and get the super regular work? I’m working on that part for sure - but you know I see the potential… I’ve had great results so far with my minimal advertising/marketing run for this deal I’m doing. I’m just needing a little extra help.

I could go through the freelancing sites… I know that - maybe I’m just a little scared to take the plunge. Oh my.

So in the process of dropping the ball somewhere along the line - I’ve come to this realization that there was too much and I couldn’t do it all. I need help - but do I have enough on the go to make it worth that person’s time… it’s an odd position to fill I guess.

Yes I’m rambling … just free thinking all over this post.

Have you worked with other people online on projects - things that may not always be constant? I’m seriously looking for help and if you have any suggestions - I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER! ;)

I know the feeling - exactly. I often find myself diving into too many projects by myself and them not getting anywhere. It’s frustrating. Finding good help is hard to come by. Let me know if there is anything I can do for ya.. Maybe we can collaborate on a project or something :) Talk soon.

It doesn’t have to take money to be in a partnership. One of my partnerships is with a coder who makes one part of the product. I make the other part (the design part). We split all the profit 50/50.

Also, you can always barter your services…you are a good designer - so barter a website design for whatever you need.

If there is a product you want to buy, it doesn’t have to cost money. Ask the vendor for a review copy.

You can also swap full sites - a while back I swapped a site (with a product) for a 50% share in a different site (bringing my ownership of that site to 100% if you see what I mean).

In other words: it’s aint all about money ;)

    Hi, Empress,

I could have written this post. I am at a point where I need help too. I have too many things to do. That said, if you email me I can give you a name of a *great* virtual assistant that can definitely help out. She is also a good friend so I feel very comfortable referring her :) Hope that helps!

I feel your pain. I think Gary’s got a great idea. I was just thinking maybe we ought to set up some sort of co-op for webmasters who need help and aren’t too paranoid to let someone know which sites are theirs. That last bit might be tricky, though.

The other problem is, most of us probably feel as busy as you. I simply have things that don’t get done, and I don’t feel I can do much about that. I’m outsourcing article writing as much as I can, and I still need more hours in the day, you know?

Maybe you also just need to cut yourself some slack. It’ll all happen sooner or later.
