Pushing the Wordpress Design envelope

My Websites, Web & Blog Design, WordPress No Comments »

Last night I worked on another WordPress template for another fan site I’m working on.  This site, is one that I’ve got working with a friend - who is also a fan :)  So I think working with my friend will definitely help bounce ideas and thoughts and the direction the site should go in - it’s just nice to sit face to face with someone who’s just as interested and excited about the project as I am!

Last night I put together my new WordPress template - and it took less time than this one did.  I’m learning!  LOL.  It’s based on the same sort of layout - so I think I’ve learned a few things putting this one together that really helped speed things up with the new template I’ve built.  I have to say though - I’m still working out the understanding of CSS - I knew the basics… but this is much more than I’ve ever done - or ever thought I could do.  It’s fun to learn something new and create new things that I didn’t think that I could.   It’s all baby steps, but I’m learning and I’m really enjoying it… go figure!  I thought it would be so painful to learn, but it isn’t so bad… hehe.

With my new design - I just want to let you know that there are 2 slots available on the Featured Sponsor spot in the header of this site.  It’s shown on all pages and I think it’s a steal of a deal.  I wanted my featured sponsors more prominent on the site, because you’re paying your hard-earned cash on it.  I’d love to see you here!

Check out the rate here.

Since I’ve been busy working on 3 new templates in the matter of a week and a half, now I’ve got to go back and start working on some content  for the sites :)  Ahhhh… good times.  I guess in a way I’ve got off the affiliate marketing chatter, and it’s time I get back into the swing of things, although design is never that far away from my next little project.

Write like you’ve never written before

Everyday BS 2 Comments »

I enjoy reading Fussy… which came about from my love of Dooce. For the past couple of years that I’ve been following Fussy and I come across NaBloPoMo, which happens for 30 days once a year. It’s where you write something - everyday - that means Saturdays and Sundays too.

I’ve signed this blog up for the big event starting November.

I figure it’s good to have some sort of writing pattern… if nothing else it will teach me that the existing writing pattern I have is A-OK… and I’ll chalk it up to momentary insanity! LOL. I think it will be fun. If you’re interested in joining a quirky bunch of writers… stop by and sign up :)

Working on Keywords and New Ideas

Web & Blog Design 4 Comments »

Last night I got started on another little site that I enjoy the topic of. It’s nice to work on sites like this, because it isn’t really work… as something more entertaining to do than pick lint out of my bellybutton. I’m excited to see where this site goes. I’m not working on this site alone either. I’ve recruited one of my friend’s to come along for the ride and provide some content for the site in lieu of money later down the road when the site takes off a bit. Right now - it’s brand spanking new. I let my friend know it could take a while before any money was to be seen… and I guess it didn’t really matter, we both love the topic.

I guess this is my first attempt at trying to distribute the work within my little network of sites. I’m actually quite happy to have someone to talk to about this, in person. It is just different and I’m looking forward to plenty of “business meetings” over plates of Sushi :)

… anyway…

I’ve been contemplating taking the plunge into learning more about programming a website - that pesky PHP coding and wrapping it all up in a pretty CSS bow. Since I’ve just realized that in the three boxes in the header - the first link on all of them… isn’t working. I’ve gone through the code and I can’t figure it out for the life of me. Any suggestions on what I’ve done - or what I can do to fix it?

Other than that… I’m laying low and working on my existing sites and trying to figure out the code on my next WordPress template :)

Does my Blog look big in this?

Web & Blog Design 2 Comments »

I have finally done it. I’ve moved over to a new template. With my email down over the weekend - my easy way out (help from Adii) wasn’t there! I had no way to get a hold of anyone… which also was a big motivating factor on trying to figure it out… CSS… it’s not quite as scary as it use to be. I managed to use a minimal amount of tables to make things show up properly and I finally got to use the template that I’d made back in August. AAAAHHHHH! Finally. It somehow just came together enough - to the point you see it now.

There are some of the finer points of CSS that elude me - things that I can’t quite wrap my brain around and I’m hoping with a little help or just plain looking around and reading a book or two that I can figure out and leave me feeling like a CSS Ninja! LOL.

I know the past few posts haven’t been all that “affiliate marketing” based - but I think it’s important to have a nice design to promote what you want to sell or show off on those sites we create. So I guess I just wanted to share my struggle with the psd-to-wordpress issue I was having, the problems we can have getting things done online with little to no money and the whole “it takes hard work” mantra to get things done - in so many aspects of Affiliate Marketing… which many of us would LOVE to avoid, but we sometimes hit a pretty big roadblock and that’s the only way we can do it.

Anyhoo… I’m rambling on again. I’d like to hear what you think of the new design :)

Still a few glitches to work out in the cross-over… but overall I like it!
