Where are good sites to buy websites

Everyday BS Add comments

I’ve been looking at Sitepoint lately in regards to perhaps one day purchasing a pre-existing site that is making some money and then working from there to grow my empire a little at a time. Just to add to the way things are right now. Honestly buying a site may help me, because that’s always the nerve-wracking moments… will it be picked up by the search engines, will I have thought this through, will it show results. Where as if I buy a website, and they have the stats and income and all that good stuff and it shows me that it’s proven and has potential to make me money. I’d like to check it out.

I’m not looking at buying something that’s $1000’s of dollars, so my website pool is limited to starting out small… I’m not even sure it’s possible. Sites I’ve seen that are in my current price range - honestly look terrible and have no PR and from what I can tell are relatively new with no real proven record.

I’m wondering if there are sites that you might be able to recommend that sell websites besides Sitepoint that are reputable and perhaps you’ve had luck with a website purchase in the past?

The Sites forum at Digital Point is always full of website for sale - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Sometimes can be hard to find any sites other than proxies and directories though.

Hi, I just finished a site which could be a huge help to you. The site aggregates site for sale and domain for sale listings from sitepoint, dnforum, namepros, webhostingtalk, and a number of other site for sale places. You can check it out at:

    http://www.siteviper.com

You can search the listings, and even set up alerts via RSS or email for specific searches. So you could set up special alerts to help you find fan sites or other site of interest.

I think the site is pretty cool, but I would love to hear your feedback.

It’s rare that a good established site with revenue comes up for sale. this usually only happens when the webmaster may have gotten bored, not have time or is moving on.

There are loads of sites where the site has been built just to be sold or where the site is about to lose all its traffic so the webmaster wants rid of it quick.

It surely is a minefield. I am also looking for sites to buy.

Thanks Adam :) I’ve found the same thing when I’ve been going through SitePoint, loads of proxies and directories or really super crappy looking sites - those ones where you know it’s all cut and paste and the longevity is in question.

Text Ad Search - since I’ve been looking I’ve just found a lot of the same things, it definitely is a minefield. I’m just hoping I can find new places and keep browsing through the old ones and maybe (hopefully) find a little diamond in the rough and I can work on it a bit and see it start earning some money.

It’s just really hard to find anything with potential… start small and grow outwards - I’ve just not found it at all that easy.

I’ll be having a sale of websites over the coming days and weeks in my forum. It’s all stuff that I no longer have an interest in or have no time to devote to it. There is one up there already

This might interest you, or maybe some of the others that are coming up for sale.

I’ve bought a few sites on Digital Point, but most of them haven’t made back the amount I paid for them (except Scrubs DVD, which is doing well) and I’ve stopped buying there now. There are occasional gems there though if you are prepared to wait and swoop in quickly before anyone else does.
