Well I’m not sure what to next with the 2 gambling oriented sites I have right now. In case you’ve not heard the United States is doing away with online gambling. I think it’s a money thing - they can’t tax it properly - unlike those casinos of brick and mortar.

I personally think this is so retarded. But money is money and the Amercian government wants it.
I’ll have to read more about it. What do you think of the removal of online gambling in the United States?

It’s retarded. Another reason to move to Canada I suppose

Absolutely lame! I never got into the online gambling thing , but americans should be able to do what they want from the privacy of their own homes including gamble online….

I think it’s stupid. But I’m not surprised they did it.

Living in the UK and working in the Betting and Gaming industry, I just think this move by the US is pathetic…right up there with Bush’s policies on gay rights and abortion. I do however think people are massively over-reacting…I just posted a huge comment over on that Shoemoney blog as to why…so I’m not going to repeat it all here!

“Another reason to move to Canada I suppose”
Well I think the Empress is more concerned with the potential revenue, not gambling herself, so moving to Canada really doesn’t solve the issue of tapping into American’s pocketbooks through gaming sites.
As far as the law, just more of the “nanny state” being put in place. Along with smoking bans (some even on your own property if a neighbor complains), bans on trans-fat going through the works in New York (Take that fatties! It’s not just smokers now, how does it feel? Didn’t think it would happen did you?)
It’s sickening, all in all.

Digger: I believe Empress is located in Canada, it was a joke

Yes, I know. I was just commenting that those in the US who think they can run from this haven’t thought too much about it. The first reaction I bet most thought is “well I’ll just offshore it”, but the point really is the loss of money from the US market, not the location of your server and website.

I think the real shame of it all is that there couldn’t have been a better way of dealing with the online gambling issue.

I got an email from one of the gambling affiliates I use: Vegas Partners and this is what they have to say about it so far…
… that is interesting. Makes me wonder what the “safe port act” is. I think I’ll Google it and find out
October 7th, 2006 at 10:24 pm
Yeah the gambling bill was attached to a homeland security act to secure our ports if you can believe that crap. Talk about inappropriate.
It happens all the time here though and the sad thing is nobody calls them on it.
