Would you Consider Adult Content?

Adult Content, Everyday BS Add comments

If you’ve been reading this blog long enough - I have few holdups when doing affiliate marketing online. I mean, I’m all for trying out a new niche, old niche, a niche… in regards to affiliate marketing. Of course there are some areas of the Internet that not a lot of people want to get involved in, and I completely understand.

One part of that taboo subject matter is the business of Adult Content.

You know it’s there - and the payouts are pretty outstanding. So how about that 4 billion dollar a year industry…. would you try it out? There are some niche topics, I just wouldn’t want to touch. But there is some that doesn’t appear too horrible either. People like sex, they like watching it in the privacy of their own home. If the sites follow the laws of the country - then why not give it a whirl? I had thought about it before…. but never really went anywhere with it.

Of course being a woman should I be mortified by just the thought of trying it out - exploitation of women… the seedy underworld that Porn floats on… you know. Of course there those of you out there who morally just don’t do it either. I don’t blame you. I just wouldn’t really know where to start. I don’t think it would be a very easy niche to get into either. There is a lot of competition out there - if we judge the spam content in our inboxes…. but I’m not looking to spam - just build a site. How hard would it be to get traffic to it? Do the search engines have filters on that sort of thing?

I’m just rambling… and would really like to hear what you think.

Answering the question in the subject, yes, if I thought I stood even a little chance of actually making any money :P

  2. Brandon Says:

Of course, well i’ve already been there. :)

I’m actually slowly getting back into it, but on a grander scale moreso than trying to crank out multiple pages/sites a day like I used to try and do.

E-mail me at brandon - at - bloggingmypursuit dot com if you need anything, maybe we could even work on something together. :P

  3. Brandon Says:

Actually, I was just thinking about something that would help you out tremendously. E-mail me.

Yes, I would. I have dabbled with it on my Big Brother site (one of the housemates did a porn film) by just adding an affiliate banner on pages for this contestant. This resulted in two purchases last month so conversion is pretty good.

I have an idea for a niche using the same affiliate but my current hosting companies do not allow adult content so I haven’t got around to setting it up yet…

It’s a totally saturated market but I reckon if you target a mico niche you can make money. Think of it as taking a tiny, tiny piece of a huge, massive, enormous, gargantuan market…you should still get some decent cash :)

I’ve thought about it, and come up with the conclusion that it would be financially beneficial to me regardless of the profitability of the actual site itself:

I would no longer have to support Mrs. PimpMyPageRank if I tried something like this - she’d be out the door in a shot (Oh the joys of a strict Baptist upbringing!)

rockin new layout, appropriately titled the “i feel dirty theme” as this is the first post I’m seeing with it, lol

I’d go for it, just not sure if the better half would, peddling it, not making it that is ;-)

“Do the search engines have filters on that sort of thing?” Do a google image search with the safe search off, porn is for sure in there, as well as the main index, yahoo too.

It is the most popular business online - so I would think it would be just as competitive as or even more than loans or something of the like.

But if you can find your niche that would work. Suicide Girls was started by a girl who had the idea to feature indie/punk girls and it took off right away. On top of that, it’s just a great quality site with interviews with some really good actors and musicians. So I don’t believe that an adult site has to be… typical to work.

  8. Jean-Rene Says:

It’s probably the hardest industry to get into online.

I’ve researched it and may start in a niche myself. It’s a tricky industry though.

  9. Chance Says:

Just the other day I was discussing the idea of trying out an “adult entertainment site” with the girlfriend.

I’ve convinced her to let me throw together one site to test the waters but I don’t really want to discuss it on my other sites- I have to try to keep full separation between it and my other online ventures.

If you guys have ideas or want to discuss the tactics, business models, programs, etc.we should start a little email group and share some info.

  10. Empress Says:

Thank you all for your comments… I was actually kind of surprised that it was for the most part pretty darn positive. It is a tricky industry to get into… I think I definitely need to find a micro niche to develop. Now the tough part - finding one. Finding a niche in general would be a bit of a stretch, and now just to try to find the traffic to bring to the site that isn’t utter crap, but quality.

  11. Jean-Rene Says:

if you need to research niches, I think the best place to do so is pornresource.com. They also tell you all the sponsors for each niche.

  12. Empress Says:

Heh. Thanks Jean-Rene :) I have seen a few resource sites, but I’m still not sure which ones are better than others. I’ll check it out!

Hey Chance… I’d be game for something like that.

  15. Hylo Says:

I had a very similar conversation with my girlfriend recently much like Chance had with his about dipping my toe (yes folks, that’s toe I’d be dipping) into the adult online market and I’d be very interested in getting involved with any kind of e-mail ring or “study group” you guys would be putting together.

    If you’d have me that is… ;-)

  16. Brandon Says:

Chance and Empress, i’d also be willing to go in on something like that. :)

  17. Chance Says:

Well, I launched my site today, submitted it to http://www.fark.com, and got 8000 uniques and quite a few signups :D

You guys (and girl!) email me at jchance AT gmail.com and I will set us up a mailing list group on one of my servers, I’d love to share ideas and hear Brandon’s great idea :P

[...] Empress posted an article recently entitled “Would you consider adult content?” to which I posted a comment saying I have dabbled with it on my Big Brother blog. [...]

  19. Webmaster Says:

You absolutely should consider an adult site. Find a niche you enjoy or at least does not have too much saturation. The key is to put your own twist on a site. There is plenty of room for building a successful adult site.

Two of the best adult webmaster resources are http://www.ynot.com and http://www.xbiz.com. They both have long lists of affiliate programs, articles and forums to get answers to questions you might have. Good luck.

  20. Building My Empire » Blog Archive » Hoping to make a Million Dollars in a week Says:

[...] I have started an Adult content related site… but I’ve really not done anything since chatting about it the last time. I really would like to give it a spin and see what happens. It’s got more to do with the very nice chunk of change you get per sign-up/rev-share… that I’m trying it out. But we’ll see how that goes in the next couple of weeks. [...]

  21. Peter Andersen Says:

Yes, I believe that I would. Actually, I have been contemplating doing so for quite a while, have talked to my girlfriend and a couple of other friends about it.

At the moment the idea is in hibernation. But it will most likely be pulled out of the closet at a later time, to be realized.
