…. but I’ve just got bored.
Seriously, I’ve got a mountain of domain names - great ideas at the time… set them up… let them go. And totally lose interest in them because I’ve got about a million other ideas on the go in my head. It is becoming a bit of a problem. LOL.
I was reading Lynn Terry’s blog and she has a good article today about looking after sites you’ve built - going back to them and updating them. How to look after a numerous amount of websites without going completely insane trying to keep up with it all.
I think that is seriously one of my problems. Good ideas and just not having the patience to sit it out a year and see what happens… tweaking it along the way of course. But I want instant gratification - I want $1000’s of dollars rolling in DAILY… I want, I want, I want. But honestly I know that it isn’t that easy. No one has the key to figuring it out - Google, MSN, Yahoo keep you guessing in the SERPs and SEO, etc… always keeping you on your toes.
It’s not a boring job. I wish I had more hours in the day to dedicate myself to it. I wanted to join BJ and Chrissie and Jenn on their mission for 50 sites by the Christmas shopping season. I mean it makes sense - get your sites up and running - out of the sandbox and ready to rumble for the holiday season. Perfect for someone who needs to focus in on a plan. But I know me, and I really wish I could do it - but I also know I just don’t really have the time.
… then I read ProBlogger’s post on 10 reasons why many blogs don’t make much money. Some of the points rang true… for example - spreading myself too thin over a bunch of projects. D’uh. I know I’ve got that issue to deal with - but I’m dealing with it, trying to find software/programs to make things more automated for me. It’s hard to find “quality” software on a limited budget…. but I’m on a learning curve here people! Heh. Anyway - I think it’s a pretty good read.
I think I’ll be building a better spreadsheet as to what I need to do - on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly basis - as needed sort of thing as Lynn said. Makes sense - and it gets me focused. I thought this May would be a good time to focus on one or two sites - for linking, content, and development. But I have other sites that need attention too.
I’m seriously debating on trying to outsource some article writing.
I’m just rolling with it.

I know what you mean about having too many domains - I have sixteen domains parked at Sedo because I haven’t got around to creating sites for them. I have ideas for each and every one, but there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to work on them all.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post, and hope it was helpful for you. I can relate - both to what you wrote, and to Paul’s comment. I have almost 100 domains I am in the process of developing - and it can feel overwhelming some days.
One of the things that helps me most is to use a timer. Just a basic kitchen timer will do. If you can set the timer, turn off all other distractions, and devote 30-60 minutes to “maintenance” each morning (which might include management of your outsourcing!), then you will at least be able to keep things rolling smoothly across the board. Even while you are spending the majority of your time developing new projects.
Best,
Lynn Terry

Wow, I can’t tell you how good it felt to read this post. I am having the SAME PROBLEM! I just caught to bug about two months ago. In that time, i’ve bought 20 domains and am slowly building sites. It is hard though… thinking about articles and finding the time to write them.

I suppose in all earnest we tend to get excited about something new but something that is lurking in the past, somehow doesn’t seem so important plus also, you can tend to feel a bit behind when we hear some people have xx amount of sites bringing in xx amount of money.
But focusing on a few sites and getting them earning a few £/$ is probably better than to many not earning not a lot. This is my point of view entirely of course as the saying goes “what is the best way to eat a elephant a bit a time” don’t think to much about instant gratification you will get your reward one day.

Although I do not own 20 domain names I can relate to your predicament. I am new to the blogging world but now running my own blog has required me to set up a schedule. I start working at a certain time and take breaks to rest my eyes. I also set daily goals of certain things I need to accomplish. It has helped me tremendously.

I have 3 projects 1 personal blog and i just can’t handle all of them. I prefer writing a day at 2 blogs and the next day at the other ones.
